Melbourne-based dream pop producer and self-described “chronic overthinker” KAIAR (aka AIM graduate Karla Gilbard) rummages through layers of off-kilter beats and choppy vocal samples to find personal truth.
An experimentalist at heart, KAIAR’s predilection for the dissonant and chaotic ripples the otherwise serene surface of her textured, almost multisensory music. As a result of leaving her staunch religious upbringing behind, she creates music that is bleedingly earnest and deeply affecting, inviting listeners to feel at ease with vulnerability.
In 2017, KAIAR released her self-titled EP and single ‘Know Myself’ via Provenance Records to airplay and support from triple j, Double J, triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio, Triple R, RTRFM, 4ZZZ and more. Her latest single Human received acclaim from tastemaker blogs Pilerats, Purples Sneakers and Borns Music.
Her dynamic and atmospheric live show has earned her support slots with the likes of Braille Face, Aphir, Estére (NZ), Telete, Bloom, Shoeb Ahmad, mara, and Blyolk.
