Dr. Katy Alexander

Academic Lecturer

With a two-decade career in the arts, media and entertainment industries, Katy Alexander has professional experience as a director, producer, and arts manager. Katy holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from the University of Sydney and a PhD in Creative Practice from UNSW. 

In her early career, Katy was involved with founding and launching if: inside film magazine. She subsequently worked as Entertainment Research Manager for Nielsen EDI and Audience Development Manager for M&GNSW.  

A Directing graduate of NIDA, Katy worked as an independent theatre director and producer for several years. In 2012 she founded Night Parrot Productions, as its Artistic Director.  

In 2015 she was awarded a Professional Development Fellowship from the Australia Council, to work with renowned multimedia theatre company, The Builders Association (New York). Katy was also a resident of the Women Directors Program at Melbourne Theatre Company. Much of her professional work in both the arts and research industries has involved establishing, creating and facilitating new works, new ventures and new projects.
