Grant Sambells

Academic Lecturer

Grant Sambells is a professional guitarist and academic. For the last thirteen years Grant has taught classical music at the Australian Institute of Music. 

Originally tutored by AIM founder Dr. Peter Calvo, Grant has trained and studied extensively before embarking on his professional career. 

He has performed at prestigious venues such as the Sydney Opera House, Government House, The Independent Theatre, The Royal Yacht Club and The Art Gallery of NSW. 

He played the premiere of Lachlan Moods by NZ born composer, Ross Carey – whose works have been performed by guitar legend Kazuhito Yamashita and the Australian String Quartet – at the Forbes Music Festival, 2011. In 2019 he performed at the Instituto Cervantes Sydney for the Brasilian Consulate. 

Some of Grant’s past musical endeavours include collaborations and performances with Clair Wenborn, David Miller, Wendy Dixon, Damian Barbeler, John Peterson, Danielle Eden and Robert Harris. Currently he is undertaking a musical doctorate with Professor Diana Blom.
