Matt Tinkler

Academic Lecturer

An experienced electronic musician, passionate educator and Ableton Certified Trainer, Matt has been creating and performing electronic music for over a decade. With a knowledge that spans numerous genres of electronic music, Matt creates lush, heavy and emotional music that takes the listener on a sound-driven journey through fantastical landscapes under the solo moniker of “Martiln”, as exemplified through his ongoing transmedial project REALMS, which was developed as part of his Master of Music at the University of Melbourne.

A community-minded individual, Matt spent 3 years at the helm of Melbourne-based music producer community, Beat Collective, which provides a safe and inclusive space for music-makers to grow, learn and interact with one-another. As part of this role, Matt hosted numerous community events, fostered the growth of a thriving online community, and was invited to speak at EMC in 2019. Matt has since stepped into the role of organiser of the Ableton User Group Melbourne.

As an educator with an extensive knowledge of Ableton Live and digital audio technology, Matt has a passion for combining the technical and the creative. Having studied both composition and music production at a tertiary level, Matt guides students in breaking down technical and technological barriers to achieve their own creative visions.
