2030 Records: A Year in Review

2030 records

Reflecting on the year with 2030 Records

2022 has been the busiest year yet for AIM’s student-run record label, 2030 Records! The time invested and dedication shown by the 2030 team whilst juggling their usual uni study load is nothing short of amazing, and has lead to incredible opportunities and valuable learning experiences.

As we reach the end of the year, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on all that we’ve achieved and some of the highlights we’ve experienced!

Official launch of 2030 Records

The 2030 team celebrated the label’s official launch (after the pandemic put most of our in-person operations on hold for 2 years). The night featured acoustic performances by 2030 artists, with special guests riddo. and Birdee who treated the crowd to a co-written unreleased song.

Gia Darcy signed to 2030 Records

We kicked off the year by signing pop singer-songwriter Gia Darcy. Gia made waves amongst the label with her release “Falling Behind”, which she subsequently performed live on national television on Channel 7’s Sunrise, accompanied by guitarist Max Rook. Most recently, Gia has released a new emotional single called “Less I Know”, which you can stream here!

Invitation to the ‘ONE Sydney’ Festival line-up

Our 2030 Records artists were invited to be part of the ONE Sydney festival line up – an event dedicated to raising funds for local charities. The event was hosted by Art Aid in an incredibly curated venue. Through Art Aid, we were given the opportunity to have our very own 2030 DJ night added to the ONE Sydney program!

Celebrated Midnight Oil’s contribution to the music industry

Label Coordinators Bridget and Tom were lucky enough to be invited to the 25th Anniversary of Support Act for their charity event Music In The House, celebrating Midnight Oil’s activism in the music industry for the past 45+ years. They even met the prime minister of Australia – Anthony Albanese!

Signed second artist – Alicia Varas

We announced a second artist signing – the talented Alicia Varas. Influenced by the music and deep lyricism of indie, alternative, R&B and rap – Alicia fuses these styles to create her unique sound. Her biggest influences include James Bay, Vance Joy and Kendrick Lamar. With 2030 Records, she plans to release her debut EP in early 2023 and we can’t wait!

Ausmusic T-Shirt Day Fundraising Event

In November, our team organised an Ausmusic T-Shirt Day fundraiser in Sydney and Melbourne to support musicians and crew who are doing it tough. In Sydney, we held a BBQ and were treated to performances by our 2030 artists and dynamic performances from AIM’s Latin and Motown Invitation ensembles. In Melbourne, we held an Aussie Rock edition of Live Lounge and a fun game of “guess the jellybeans in a jar”, which included a $50 Coleman’s Music voucher, lollies, essential stationary items and a mystery item – a harmonica. Over $300 was raised by the 2030 team and AIM students for Support Act. A huge thank you goes out to everyone who donated!

What’s next for 2030 Records?

All three of our artists are proud to announce that they all have music to be released early next year! Keep an eye on their socials for pre-save links and release dates by following our artists here: @giadarcy, @aliciavaras & @outwater. As we head into 2023, we will also be looking for new artists to sign to the label, and enthusiastic students to join the label’s management team! If you are interested in joining 2030 Records as either an artist or volunteer in any of our departments (marketing, A&R, project management), follow our Instagram for updates!

Thank you to everyone who has shown support to our artists and the team over the years. Happy holidays from 2030 Records!
