You may be wondering why everyone you know suddenly starts wearing Ocean Alley, Thelma Plum, or Flume t-shirts the moment the calendar turns to November. While a band tee is basically our go-to uniform at the Australian Institute of Music, the fashion shift marks an important milestone in the Australian music industry – Aus Music Month.
It’s no secret that Australia has some incredible musical talent, but our signature sound doesn’t always get the love it deserves on global playlists. That’s exactly what this month is here to change, with a nationwide celebration of our home-grown sound and the people who make it.
Want to know how you can support the movement? Here’s the low-down on all things Aus Music Month.

What is Aus Music Month all about?
Every November, Aus Music Month turns the spotlight on our own backyard for a celebration of the vibrant, diverse sounds that shape Australia’s music scene and the incredible talent behind it.
It’s a cultural moment that reminds us Australian music isn’t just background noise, it’s part of who we are. For listeners, venues, and artists alike, this month is about embracing songs made right here at home and feeling proud of the sounds that define us.
It’s also a time to rally behind the people who keep the industry alive. Support Act’s Aus Music T-Shirt Day has become a key event during the month, raising essential funds for financial relief, mental health and wellbeing services, and dedicated support for First Nations artists.
By simply wearing your favourite Aussie band tee and making a donation, you’re helping sustain the heartbeat of our music community.

When is Aus Music T-Shirt Day?
Aus Music T-Shirt Day celebrations will kick off on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
Started by triple j and now backed by industry partners, it raises funds and awareness for local music workers and supports those behind the scenes.
It’s a visible, tangible way to show we’re in this together for the next generation of Australian music (and also show off your coolest concert merch).
Why does this matter to you, as the next generation of Australian musicians?
Whether you’re in your final year at AIM or counting down the days until your first audition, participating in Aus Music Month means you’re part of the movement.
You’re the next generation of creators, songwriters, performers and industry voices. By enrolling at AIM, you’re investing in your craft, and by supporting your peers through streaming, watching their gigs, and getting your name out there, you’re building a culture that lifts everyone.
There’s never been a better time to lean in. Use the month to listen deeply, connect with mentors and collaborators, and start shaping your own path.
So, whether you’re wearing a band tee on November 27, creating your own Aussie playlist, or exploring our course options, let’s Ausify the future of Australian music together.
