Entry Requirements
School leaver applicants must:
- Have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 qualification (or overseas equivalent as assessed by the Department of Education, including the International Baccalaureate (IB)), in the last 2 years.
Students who have successfully completed the senior level of the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (or equivalent (VCAL/VCE(VM)in the last 2 years; may be eligible for entry into a diploma level course. Students may use the diploma as a pathway into a degree.

Applicants are required to attend an interview or live audition or provide a portfolio. Two items should be prepared:
- An analytical essay about music or the music business. Topics may include a music artist, composer, musical
AND one of the following:
- A live music performance
- A recorded video or audio performance
- A recorded original composition including a credit list (for example: composer, lyricist, arranger, producer, musicians, engineer)
- A pdf score of an original composition or arrangement
- A handwritten score of an original composition or arrangement
- An original audio mix of a musical work including a credit list (for example: composer, lyricist, arranger, producer, musicians, engineer)

What You’ll study
Designed for the fastest-growing sector in music, the DIY artist, this course gives you the best of both worlds. Spend half your degree honing your creative skills in performance, composition, or technology, and the other half mastering the business of music.
Hone Your Craft (50%)
Choose one core stream of study to focus your creative development and define your unique voice. Specialisations include:
- Performance: Perfect your technique and stagecraft on your primary instrument or voice through one-on-one tuition and ensemble workshops.
- Composition: Learn the art of songwriting, arranging, and producing professional-quality tracks in our state-of-the-art studios.
- Creative Technology: Explore sound design, electronic music production, and the innovative software used to create the sounds of tomorrow.
- Musicology: Explore the history, culture, and analysis of music for careers in journalism, research, and curation
Build Your Career (50%)
Master the four pillars of the modern music business through a range of core, industry-focused units:
- Artist Management: Learn career strategy, brand development, and how to build a team to support your artistic vision.
- Music Publishing & Copyright: Understand how to protect your original work and generate income from royalties and licensing.
- Record Labels & Distribution: Master the art of the release, from A&R and digital marketing to getting your music on global streaming platforms.
- Live Performance & Touring: Discover the business behind the stage, including concert promotion, logistics, and building a loyal fanbase through live events.
There are three stages in the Bachelor of Music (Music Business) program, depending on the depth of study you prefer.
You may exit with a Diploma of Music at the end of 3 study periods.
You may exit with the Associate Degree of Music at the of 4 study periods.
The Bachelor of Music (Music Business) is awarded at the end of 6 study periods for domestic students and 9 study periods for international students.
