Sophie Rose

Sophie Rose is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, extended technique enthusiast, composer, improviser, researcher, multi-media artist, and maker. She is currently undertaking a Ph.D. at The University of Melbourne in Interactive Composition. Her work explores the relationship between creative practice, interactive technology, trauma, feminism, and embodiment. Sophie’s masters examined the role of physical environments compared to virtual environments created by the use of technology and their effect on composition for extended vocal techniques.

Throughout her academic career, Sophie has conducted research and published articles and papers on topics related to interactive music, New Instruments for Musical Expression, and voice. Their work has been featured in NIME and Riffs Journal. In addition to their artistic practice, Sophie is an enthusiastic teacher and mentor. She has taught courses in vocal performance, aural skills, composition, and music production.
