Make Music Day: AIM Sydney

Make your day with some music at AIM! To celebrate Make Music Day 2021, we are throwing open the doors of our Sydney campus to the public from 2:00pm – 6:00pm on Monday the 21st June for a series of FREE individual and group music lessons!

At AIM’s own Make Music Day, you can choose from guitar, piano or drum lessons. You can also participate in our vocal, songwriting and music production workshops. All sessions will be delivered in AIM’s state of the art facilities by our professional staff and guest artist Elana Stone.

Places for all lessons and workshops are limited and registration is essential!

GROUP MUSIC WORKSHOP 1: “Make Noise Workshop” with ELANA STONE

Monday 21 June: 3.00pm – 5.00pm

Join ARIA Award-winning artist Elana Stone in a FREE vocal workshop. Breathe! Get moving with rhythm, take sound bath, improvise and freestyle as you learn some unforgettable tricks of the trade in this special Make Music Day 2021 event @ AIM Sydney. You don’t need to read music, just bring yourself, your willingness to step forward, and your voice! The Make Noise Workshop runs for 90 minutes with refreshments served after. Places are limited to 30 and registration is essential.

Singer/songwriter Elana Stone is an ARIA Award-winning vocalist whose style combines instrumental invention with eccentricity, and inclines to write pop that is by turns exultant or introspective. If Ella Fitzgerald met Dirty Projectors and Joni Mitchell, you’d have an idea of how Elana might sound, but you’d be missing the country and folk influences too!

GROUP MUSIC WORKSHOP 2: Music Production Workshop with MARK OLIVEIRO

Monday 21 June: 3.30pm – 5:00pm

Join Mark Oliveiro and learn how to craft the sounds of modern groove in this FREE crash course on “beat-making in the modern DAW”! Three different (beat-based music) styles will be offered, highlighting three simple production techniques, in this hands-on workshop, where participants make / finish their own (original) beat-sequence in 90 minutes. The Music Production Workshop runs for 90 minutes. Places are limited to 18 and registration is essential.

Dr Mark Oliveiro is a graduate and distinguished alumnus of the Sydney Conservatorium, the College of Music, the University of North Texas and the School of Music at Indiana University. As well as working as an academic lecturer at AIM, Mark is a composer with diverse extra-musical interests including history, mythology and ancient literature. With a keen and equal interest in acoustic and electronic music as well as interactive media, Mark’s music has been represented at national and international conferences and festivals including the World Saxophone Congress, the International Horn Society, the International Computer Music Association, the Society of Electroacoustic Music, Electronic Music Midwest and Vivid Music.

GROUP MUSIC WORKSHOP 3: Songwriting Workshop with SIMONE EAST

Monday 21 June: 4.00pm – 5.30pm

Join Simone East for a FREE songwriting masterclass. Bring your songs, your bits of songs or just yourself and we will take a deep dive into song structure, rhyme, metaphor and prosody so that your songs move and excite audiences. The Music Production Workshop runs for 90 minutes. Places are limited to 18 and registration is essential.

Simone East is a passionate songwriter and orchestral composer with over 15 years of experience in delivering and designing courses in composition, songwriting, music theory and music history. Simone is fascinated with the interplay between words and music and has been performing as a singer-songwriter, sharing the stage with international artists such as Nashville-based Emma Swift, North Carolina’s The Easy Leaves. Simone is currently putting the finishing touches on her debut album Stealing Time with producer Ben Edwards.
